Our Catapult Project
Our Catapult Project
This week we have been learning how to build a catapult to launch onto our roller coaster. We watched Youtube videos on how to build a catapult using popsicle sticks. Then we did some reading tasks. We learnt that catapults are ancient weapons created to throw projectiles further than a person could by themselves. These weapons work like levers with the base acting as the fulcrum for the arm to pivot off of. You can make a small version of a catapult using many common household items. This is a fun science and engineering project for kids of all ages to understand simple machines.
For reading, we also learnt how to visualise by using Drawings on the computer. We completed an image of our catapult.
For our maths task, some of us used repeated addition while others used their knowledge of basic facts.
Our Reading Task
For writing, we needed to complete an explanation writing on how we were going to build a catapult.

Kids Safe With Dogs
Kids Safe With Dogs
Here are some things that we learnt:
*Only pat the dog on its side and back not the head.
*Ask the owner permission before you pat the dog.
*Don't approach it if it looks frightened.
*If a dog is chasing you, stand like a tree holding your elbows and look at the ground and it will stop. Remember to be silent.
*If its ears are tucked back and it approaches you it means that it's about to chase and bark at you. That's a warning. Take tree position.
*Don't chase the dog, it will bite you.
*Ask the owner before you feed the dog.
*Don't approach a dog that is eating.
*Don't steal a dogs toy.
*Don't show your teeth to a dog, it will assume that you are a predator.
*Don't interrupt a sleeping dog.
*Make a good bed/kennel for your dog.
*Feed your dog special dog food so it doesn't get sick.
*Leave the food on the ground, don't attempt to feed the dog.
Each of us got really informative booklets. We will be completing it for homework.
