Year 5 EOTC Day 1

Year 5 EOTC Day 1

On Thursday, Lily's Dad, Graham came in to school to teach us some survival skills. The day started with looking at stretchers - the first stretcher we looked at was one the was made out of two branches, and a pack liner. The bottom two corners of the pack liners were cut, so that the branch could be pushed through. Once this was done, we had our makeshift stretchers ready to go!

All members of the groups had a turn on our pack liner-stretchers. These pack liners were super strong - Graham told us that they can carry up to 230kgs in weight!

Graham then set out another stretcher activity for us - using four pieces of branches and rope, we were asked to make a stretcher strong enough to carry all of our team members, and then we would race those stretchers. There were so many amazing stretchers, and the races got really competitive between the groups!

The second half of the day was spent putting up our tents. This was a really hard activity as many of us had not put up a tent before, so it was a new experience for us.

Big smiles from Lily and Inoke - they were part of the first group to have their tent put up perfectly!

Our student teacher Grace was not very experienced in tent building, so our group was falling behind all of the groups!
