Our Marae Visit

Our Marae Visit

Our day started off with a Powhiri at the Manurewa Marae Matukutururu.

There were 10 stations in totally consisting of: Short Rakau with Whaea Tania, Tall Rakau with Mr Ikitule, Poi with Whaea Emma, Marae Korero with Erin, Dining Room Protocol with Britts, Taamoko Stencils with our lovely parent helpers, Waita with Whaea Christine, Haka with Mary, Raranga with Whaea Carolina and Rebecca, Maori commands/hand games with Whaea Geneva. Because of limited time, we only had the opportunity to participate in 4 of the stations. Our first station was the waita station with Whaea Christine.

Our second station was the Poi station with Whaea Emma, she worked with the girls. She was pleased that we learnt our moves so quickly.

While we were learning our poi moves, the boys were doing the haka.

Our third station was the Raranga one with Whaea Carolina and Rebecca. We struggled at first, but then some of us became experts.

This was the Tall Rakau station with Whaea Lois.

This was the games station, we played Kia o Rahi.

This was the Dining Room Protocol Station.

What a fun-filled educational day with beautiful weather. For most of us it was our first time. We hope that we have the marae visit again next year.
